INDIVIDUALIZED TUTORING FROM
A BRAIN-BASED PERSPECTIVE.

ABOUT US

MindMap Tutoring was founded by a neuropsychologist with an understanding of and interest in how children think, learn, and grow. Our approach is rooted in brain-based principles and individualized support, bridging the gap between neuropsychology and education. We use data to inform our teaching, and use ongoing progress monitoring to ensure our students are developing. We specialize in helping students who learn differently, want more of a challenge, or need a little extra guidance finding confidence and structure in their academic journey.

HOW IT WORKS

1

INTAKE CALL

Parents speak with Dr. Douglas, without their child, to provide an academic background, discuss their concerns, and identify their goals for tutoring. This will serve as a foundation for Dr. Douglas to develop a Learning Plan. Once a tutor is identified, families are welcome to have an introductory call with that tutor. Goodness of fit is integral to the MindMap Tutoring philosophy.

2

PAPERWORK

Parents are given a brief assessment of their child's learning style and needs. The selected tutor will review this document with Dr. Douglas, and a preliminary Learning Plan is devised.

3

FIRST SESSION

Your child and their identified tutor meet and discuss the purpose and goals of their sessions. Depending on their age, students may also complete a self-assessment, which helps refine the Learning Plan and provides insight into how they view their own thinking. Sometimes one of the most important features of tutoring is helping students learn how they learn.

4

CHECK IN WITH DR. DOUGLAS

Parents check in with Dr. Douglas to see how the first session went and if they feel it's a good match. A good fit is as important to us as anything. If so, wonderful; if not, we'll see if we have another tutor who may be a better fit.

5

SCHEDULING

Assuming we found a fit, the sessions are formally scheduled and the work begins. From here on out, families/students will communicate with their tutor directly for all concerns (they're always welcomed to speak with Dr. Douglas, too).
