ABOUT US
MindMap is led by educators, (school) psychologists, researchers, and learning specialists who translate the science of neuropsychology into thoughtful, student-centered instruction. We support students who need extra guidance, greater challenge, or simply more practice, while building the emotional confidence that makes real learning possible. Though tutoring is a one-on-one activity, each of our tutors has access to the resources of the others, including collaborative conversations that we have with each other to offer the most comprehensive support possible.
WHO
WE
ARE
Our staff is made of up teachers, neuropsychologists, psychologists, school psychologists, tenured professors, researchers, learning specialists, doctoral candidates, and most importantly, people who care about supporting students. While it is our goal to offer varied services to meet the needs of many, we do not operate with a one-size-fits-all mentality; please let us know what you are looking for, and we do not offer that support, we will help you find someone unaffiliated who does.
WHAT
WE
DO
We offer thoughtful, student-centered instruction grounded in the science of neuropsychology. Our approach supports students who need a bit more guidance, seek greater challenge, or simply learn best with extra practice and reinforcement.
Just as importantly, we focus on helping students build emotional confidence alongside academic competence—because feeling capable is the foundation for meaningful learning.
WHERE
WE
WORK
All tutors work remotely, and many offer in-person work in your home. Sometimes, working with a student remotely is not appropriate, either due to their age, the type of support needed, or something else; if this is the case, we'll find a way to work with you in-person, or refer you to someone who can.
WHEN
SESSIONS
ARE
Typically, for K-12 students, sessions occur on weekdays after school hours. Occasionally, during-school sessions (for older students with free periods and accommodating schools) can be scheduled. Weekend appointments are also often available.
WHY
WE
STARTED
Tutoring in NYC, often, feels like a one-size-fits-all field. This is completely counterintuitive to everything we know about the brain, our most complex organ. MindMap was developed to better appreciate, through teaching strategies, our necessarily individual learning styles.
